Our Story

Long before SAM Houston Group had a website, it had over thirty years in the gas station and retail business behind it.

Sam Ali started working at sixteen in gas stations, car washes, mechanic shops and auto repair shops. He didn't stay behind the counter long. Before long he was running many sides of the business: fuel, inside sales, staff, vendors and the daily numbers that decide whether a station makes money.

From there, Sam became the person owners counted on for their books. He handled bookkeeping and accounting for business owners, acted as the go-between for owners and their accountants, and supported business owners and their advisors. Along the way he learned the systems these businesses run on. That includes SSCS (Service Station Computer Systems) for retail back office and centralized price books, and PDI for wholesale fuel.

Early on, Sam worked with an established accounting practice that focused on gas station owners, and he saw what that kind of focus could do for an industry.

That's the idea behind Strategic Accounting Management, the firm Sam Ali founded. It's built by someone who has stood where our clients stand.

Sam is an IRS-registered tax preparer and an authorized IRS e-file provider, serving clients in Texas, New York and nationwide. Sam is not a CPA or attorney. Our work is automated, streamlined and kept current with the latest in the industry and in technology, from our secure client portal to remote access into the systems our clients already use.

Our home base is Post Oak Boulevard in Houston, but our reach is nationwide. We work remotely with businesses across the country that run on SSCS and similar platforms, with no need to be on-site, and Sam travels to visit locations when the job calls for it. We bring real, hands-on experience, and we're just as excited about what comes next.

Frequently asked questions

Do you prepare individual tax returns in Houston?

Yes. We prepare individual and family income tax returns for clients in Houston and nearby communities including Katy, Sugar Land, Bellaire and the Uptown/Galleria area, and we work remotely with clients nationwide.

Do you work with small businesses?

Yes. We help small businesses with bookkeeping, accounting and business tax filings, and with keeping records organized throughout the year.

I moved from New York to Texas. Can you help with my New York return?

Yes. People who move from New York to Texas often still need to file a New York part-year resident or nonresident return for the year of the move. We can help you sort out what applies to you.

I received a letter from the IRS. What should I do?

Don’t ignore it, and don’t panic. Read it for the response deadline and send us a copy. We’ll help you understand what it says and what the next steps are. We do not represent clients before IRS Appeals or Collections unless authorized under Circular 230.

How do I send you my tax documents?

Clients upload W-2s, 1099s and other documents through our secure client portal. The portal shows which items are still missing and sends reminders.

When should I start preparing for the 2026 tax season?

Now is a good time. You can schedule a pre-season review and start uploading documents as they arrive in early 2027.

Do you work with gas stations that use SSCS?

Yes. We provide bookkeeping and tax support for gas station and convenience store owners who use SSCS (service station computer system), the gas station back-office platform that started in California. Our founder has worked hands-on with SSCS retail back office and centralized price book systems, and with PDI (wholesale fuel software) for wholesale fuels, for many years. We work from your SSCS or PDI reports; we are not affiliated with SSCS or PDI.
